HUBCO holds substantial stake in the Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company (SECMC), which is a leading coal producer in Pakistan with the world's largest lignite coal reserves located in Thar.

In June 2018, SECMC successfully unearthed the first layer of coal, and subsequently completed a 60-day testing period of steady state production of on-specification coal. In October 2022, SECMC successfully achieved commercial operations for Phase II increasing its capacity from 3.8 MTPA to 7.6 MTPA.

In line with our aspirations to enhance the energy landscape of the country, SECMC has become one of the largest providers of indigenous fuel to the power generation industry. With a current annual mining capacity of 7.6 million tons, SECMC is catering to the operational requirements of three lignite fired power plants at Thar, providing affordable and indigenous fuel for electricity generation.
